In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims what we know as the Sermon on the Mount, a teaching many consider the very heart of His message. Those who first heard it were expecting a Messiah who would lead with power and force. Instead, Jesus reveals a very different vision of greatness: humility, mercy, purity of heart, and trust in God.
He begins with the Beatitudes - “blessings” that describe not only attitudes to admire, but a way of life to embrace. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” In truth, all of us are poor in spirit. Left to ourselves, we lack what we need to live fully and faithfully. We depend entirely on the grace and guidance of the Lord.
This God-centered dependence is at the core of Christian stewardship. To be a disciple of Christ is to recognize that our lives, gifts, and future belong to Him.
The World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life, celebrated this weekend, gives us a living example of the Beatitudes in action. Those in consecrated life witness in a powerful way what it means to rely completely on God — choosing lives of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Their vocation reminds all of us that true blessing is found not in self-sufficiency, but in surrender to Christ.
Please pray for all those in consecrated life, thank them for their witness, and ask God to renew in each of us a deeper trust in Him.
First Communion Sessions
First Holy Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic person’s life. It is the first time that a person receives the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is the eating of consecrated bread and drinking of consecrated wine. Most Catholic children receive their First Holy Communion when they are 7 or 8 years old as this is considered the age of reason. (Please register here)
